Timeless 20% Vitamin C+E Ferulic Acid Serum Review

I wrote an update awhile ago that said I no longer use Paula’s Choice Vitamin C serum because it made my skin red and blotchy. It took two trips to the dermatologist to realize that is what caused my skin issues so I’ve been using the Timeless 20% Vitamin C+E Ferulic Acid Serum for the past 9-10 months. At the time, I was convinced that moving forward I was going to use Skinceuticals CE Ferulic because it is the gold standard. But, I just couldn’t bring myself to pay that much for a serum.

Mia’s review: I have no plans to stop using the Timeless 20% Vitamin C+E Ferulic Acid Serum. I haven’t experienced any irritation or skin issues during my time using it. At one point, I was concerned about the small amount of

benzyl alcohol being drying but haven’t experience any dryness. I’m assuming that it is a small enough amount that it isn’t causing any problems.

I am committed to using L-Absorbic Acid and have found very few affordable options. I used to use the Cosmetic Skin Solutions Serum but they reformulated it. I don’t know the pH level but they now advertise it as having a super low pH. I’m not trying it because I’m afraid that such a low pH will cause skin irritation. I’ve also tried the Maelove Glowmaker serum but it clogged my pores.

I keep the bottle in the refrigerator and have not had any problems with it oxidizing. I wrote about refrigerating Vitamin C serums in the past so to see the results of those experiments, click here. I keep a small bottle of the serum in my bathroom cabinet and refill it when it is empty. I also usually wash and dry the bottle between refills. I actually use a sample Skinceuticals bottle for this purpose (but I’ve also used small clear sample bottles that I completely cover with washi tape or even just painter’s tape):

I’ve read in other reviews that folks have problems with the Timeless Vitamin C forming crystals on the bottle. After using the majority of my first bottle, I decided I didn’t want to decant it into the smaller bottle anymore since there was such a small amount left. Once I started using the bottle every day, small crystals did form on the outside of the bottle:

When I applied the serum, I could feel the crystals on my face. But, I don’t think the crystals were in the serum itself. I think it got onto my hand from the outside of the bottle. I wiped the crystals off the outside of the bottle but they kept forming.

So here’s a photo of my current bottle with about 1/4 of the bottle left.

There are no crystals on the outside of the bottle or in the serum itself. I think this is because I am still pumping it into the small bottle rather than pumping it out every day.

The bottles look different colors in the photos but I don’t think Timeless has changed the bottles. If you look at the first photo in this post of the bottle next to its box, it is a more orange-y color. It is the same bottle as the photo above. I think it is just differences in the lighting in my apartment.

I’ve had no problems with the Timeless Vitamin C+E Ferulic Serum and do not plan on changing brands anytime soon. Please comment and let me know about your experience using it!

The current formula of Cosmetic Skin Solutions 15% CE Serum is excellent. The pH is low and there are ingredients added that mitigate any dryness from the alcohol that helps penetration. I can use this daily even with using 0.1% tretinoin every night and no irritation. I prefer this new formulation to the original. My current bottle is more than 3 months old and not a sign of oxidation. Timeless has typically oxidized by then and stains my fingers. Maelove oxidizes easily too. After returning two bottles I gave up on it.
